Turn ANY script

into Bold, Playable Choices that BOOK!

A practical, step-by-step system that shows you exactly how to

break down scenes, find the story, and make specific, bookable choices... before you walk into the room (or set up your tripod!).

  • Stop “winging it” and build a rock-solid process for every script you touch.

  • Walk into auditions and rehearsals with clear objectives, tactics and subtext already mapped out.

  • Make stronger, more specific choices that stand out in a sea of “nice” but forgettable performances.

  • Feel confident that you understand the story, the character, the arc and the themes, and not just your lines.

Does this sound like you?

You get a script… and instead of feeling excited, you feel a little lost...

  • You kind of understand what’s happening... but you don’t have a clear map of the story or your character’s journey.

  • You rely on “instincts” and hope the director tells you what’s working (or what’s not!).

  • Your choices sometimes feel a bit general, and you worry that your auditions blend into all the other actors reading the same sides.

  • You’ve heard terms like beats, units, given circumstances, objectives, tactics, subtext etc... but no one’s ever given you a simple, repeatable way to use them effectively.

  • You’d love to feel like the smartest person in the room when it comes to the script… without feeling like you're a boring academic!

If any of that lands, you don’t need more “talent”...
You need a clear, practical script analysis process built for actors.

Ready to build that process? Start Script Analysis for Actors

Introducing Script Analysis for Actors

Script Analysis for Actors is a concise, no-fluff online course that shows you how to go from “I’ve read the script” to “I know exactly what I’m doing in every beat of this scene.”

You’ll learn a repeatable, 8-step framework to:

  • Understand the big picture of any play, film, or TV episode.

  • Break scenes into beats you can actually play.

  • Lock in objectives, tactics and subtext, so every moment has intention.

  • Tie it all together into a clear character arc and performance.

This isn’t an academic dramaturgy lecture and it’s not another vague “trust your instincts” chat.
It’s real-world script analysis from a working actor and coach, designed to be used tomorrow on your next audition or rehearsal.

After this course you'll be able to...

1. See the Story Like a Director

Grasp the big picture quickly using Action Analysis, so you always know what the story is truly about and how your character fits into it.

2. Build a Playable World, Fast

Use Given Circumstances to create a vivid, specific world – time, place, relationships, stakes – instead of playing in vague “nothing land”.

3. Break Scenes into Beats You Can Act

Identify where the scene turns, where the tension spikes, and where your tactics change – so your work has shape, not mush.

4. Make Clear, Bold Choices

Nail your Objectives and Tactics in each beat, so every line has a point and your performance feels active, not passive.

5. Play the Subtext, Not Just the Lines

Learn to read between the lines, so your work is layered with inner life, secrets and contradictions that casting directors love.

6. Track a Compelling Character Arc

Map your character’s journey from first scene to last, and calibrate your performance so it evolves in a logical, powerful way.

7. Turn Prep into a Reliable System

Walk into every room knowing you’ve done the right work – not random work – and can reproduce that process for any script.

What You’ll Learn Inside Script Analysis for Actors

In roughly 90 mins of focused video training , you’ll build a complete script analysis system you can use for the rest of your career.

Module 1 – The Actor’s Secret Weapon

Why script analysis is the foundation of great acting.
You’ll discover how thinking before you act frees you up to be impulsive, alive and truthful in the moment.

Module 2 – Getting the Big Picture (Quick Action Analysis)

Learn to read any script like a map: identify key events, central conflict and theme, and your character’s role in the larger story.

Module 3 – Building the World (Given Circumstances)

Turn vague stage directions into a rich, lived-in world.
You’ll gather all the Who / What / Where / When / Why and use them to anchor every choice you make.

Module 4 – Breaking It Down (Scenes & Beats)

No more playing one long “mood”.
You’ll break scenes into playable beats and mark where the energy, topic or power dynamic shifts – so your work has structure and momentum.

Module 5 – What Do I Want? (Objectives & Tactics)

Learn how to define clear objectives in each beat – and choose strong actions to go after what you want when obstacles get in the way.

Module 6 – Reading Between the Lines (Subtext & Inner Life)

Discover how to mine the text for what’s not being said – and how to let that inner life colour your performance without over-indicating.

Module 7 – The Character’s Journey (Charting the Arc)

Map your character’s emotional and psychological journey from beginning to end, and connect each scene to a clear through-line.

Module 8 – From Page to Performance (Putting It All Together)

Bring your analysis into rehearsal and performance without getting stuck in your head. Learn how to stay flexible, collaborate with directors, and adapt this system for fast-turnaround auditions.

Imagine Your Next Audition Going Like This…

  • You get the sides and, instead of panicking, you run them through your script analysis checklist.

  • In under an hour, you’ve mapped the story, the beats, your objectives and tactics.

  • You walk into the room (or hit record on your self-tape) knowing exactly what you’re playing... and you’re free to listen, respond and surprise yourself in the moment!

  • The director or casting director says, “That was really specific. Let’s play with that a bit,” instead of “Can you try it again, just more… active?”

  • You leave knowing you didn’t just “say the lines”... you told the story!

That’s what strong script analysis does.

It turns “I hope this works” into a repeatable, confident process.

Meet Your Instructor - Dean Graham

Hi, I’m Dean - a working actor, acting coach and founder of The Actors Yard.

As an actor, I’ve performed everywhere from the West End stage to TV screens on ITV and Channel 4, and I’ve coached hundreds of actors – from new graduates to series regulars – on how to build stronger, more specific performances.

The difference between “nice work” and undeniably compelling work is rarely talent. It’s how deeply (and how clearly) you understand the script.

I created Script Analysis for Actors because I saw the same problem again and again: brilliant actors with good instincts, but no simple process for breaking down text.

This course is the system I use in my own work and with actors in my studio - distilled into a format you can revisit anytime you prep a role!

FAQs

Is this course suitable for beginners?

Yes. If you’ve never formally studied script analysis, this will give you a clear foundation. If you’ve trained before, it will tighten your process and give you a simple checklist you can rely on.

I’m already working professionally. Will this still help me?

Absolutely. Many working actors have a felt sense of how they approach text, but not a clear system. This course helps you sharpen, name and repeat what works – especially useful for high-pressure auditions and recurring roles.

How long will it take me to go through the course?

The core videos are around 1.5 hours in total. You can binge them in one sitting or take them module by module while you apply each step to a script you’re working on.

Does this overlap with LineMaster?

LineMaster focuses on learning and retaining lines.
Script Analysis for Actors focuses on understanding the story, character and beats so you know exactly what you’re playing. They work beautifully together, but you don’t need LineMaster to benefit from this course.

Will this work for theatre and screen?

Yes. The tools you’ll learn – action analysis, given circumstances, objectives, tactics, subtext and arc – apply to stage, film and TV. You’ll see examples from both worlds.

What if I don’t have much time to prep?

That’s exactly when a clear system is most useful. You can run a “lightning version” of the process on last-minute sides, or go deeper when you have time for full prep.

How long do I have access to the course?

You get lifetime access, including any future updates or additional resources added to the course.
